Zulu Time (_z)

Zulu time, or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the time scale at which all the world and regional weather models use. Zulu time can be calculated for the Southeastern US during daylight savings (EDT) as the current time plus 4 hours, and when it isn't Daylight Savings (EST), add 5 hours to the current time to get Zulu time.

Run times using Zulu

  • 0Z = 7 p.m.EST, 8 p.m. EDT
  • 6Z = 1 a.m.EST, 2 a.m. EDT
  • 12Z = 7 a.m.EST, 8 a.m. EDT
  • 18Z = 1 p.m.EST, 2 p.m. EDT

The times are when runs initialize, but they are processed for anywhere between 2 and 6 hours before rolling out to the output maps and data charts. SouthernWx Home
