Overrunning
Overrunning is where two air masses overlap each other, resulting in precipitation. This is mostly applied to winter weather discussions where a warm air mass is forced above a cold air mass at the surface, resulting in stratiform precipitation where the northern part of the precipitation shield is snow. These systems can produce large swaths of snow over several hours, which results in several inches of snow.
