Hurricane Fran was a category 3 Atlantic hurricane that formed on August 23rd 1996 and made landfall in SE North Carolina on September 6th 1996.

Fran reached its peak intensity while passing just east of the Bahamas. Fran made landfall in The southeastern part of North Carolina with sustained winds of 115 mph. Fran brought extremely heavy rainfall to North Carolina which led to major flooding

High winds caused major tree and structural damage across a large area in southeastern and central North Carolina

Fran brought heavy rain which led to flooding in Virgina , West Virgina , Maryland and Pennsylvania. It's estimated that Fran caused 27 deaths and 3.2 billion dollars worth of damage
