Correlation Coefficient (CC)

One of many features in dual-pol radars that detects types of precipitation or debris from a tornado. This map is often displayed with a red color being standard rain or all snow, mainly light, yellow and green being medium-sized forms of precipitation such as heavier snow, sleet, and small to large hail, and blue being debris from tornadoes or very large hail. Look for large patches of yellow or green to find those types, and a small, several radar pixel sized area of blue in a couplet to spot tornado debris.

The CC radar is useful during snowstorms for showing the rain/snow line, the line is often 5 -10 or more miles wide, with mixed precipitation in between. Solid areas indicate one form of precipitation, either rain or snow.
