Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE)

CAPE is the amount of energy a parcel would have if lifted a certain distance through the atmospheric column. CAPE is very important as it is the amount of buoyant energy that is available to accelerate a particle upward. High cape values indicate plenty of energy available for upward motion and strong storms. However, enough moisture must be present for storm formation and call capping (CINH) must be eroded
